Actress Koena Mitra had accused senior actress Dolly Bindra for threatening her with dire consequences if she did not pay Dolly the money owed to her for a film project that the latter had fetched the former. While Koena in her interviews maintained that Dolly was never involved in the contractual agreement of the unnamed film to be produced by Alok Shrivastav, Dolly’s lawyer, Falguni Bhrambhatt, in an exclusive conversation to The Asian Age goes on record to say what had actually transpired between Koena and Dolly.
“Dolly is my ,client who runs an event management company called Dolly Bindra Pvt. Ltd. She had watched Koena Mitra for the first time on television doing an item number in Khullam Khulla Pyar Karen. She noticed a spark in her as an actress and thought of involving her in the shows that she organised in India and abroad. Dolly met Koena at her Bandra residence. She lived in a small dingy room then,” said Falguni.
The two turned good friends over a period of time. Koena told Dolly that since Dolly had good contacts in the film industry, they could work together whereby Dolly could not only get Koena roles in films but Koena could also be a part of shows held in India and abroad. Dolly and Koena also had an understanding that for any deal struck between them, Koena would pay remuneration to Dolly.
“Koena earlier barely got Rs 2 lakhs for a film. Dolly promised to get her much more through film deals and shows abroad. It was Dolly who helped her financially during Koena’s bad days. During one such effort, Dolly introduced Koena to a producer, Alok Shrivastav at Mumbai’s JW Marriott Hotel. Alok has only one film to his credit till date — Jaane Hoga Kya which has not yet seen the light of day. A narration was given to Koena and she agreed to do the film and in a subsequent meeting at the Taj Lands End a deal was struck for Rs 28 lakhs where it was agreed upon that Koena would keep Rs 20 lakhs while the remaining Rs 8 lakhs would be given to Dolly as her remuneration. Dolly had got Koena an amount that was way above the actress’ expectations,” added Falguni.
The lawyer went on to say that present during this meeting was Alok, a man named Joy, a close companion of Alok, two other men, a builder and the financier of the film. “A deal was signed and Koena received her first cheque of Rs 5 lakhs after which the actress just disappeared avoiding my client completely. It was clear of case of cheating. And though Koena has lodged a complaint with the police about the ‘so-called’ threats from Dolly and her husband Kaizaad, no FIR has been registered as yet. Why? I, as a lawyer, know why the police have refused to lodge an FIR — because there is no evidence!” She adds that Dolly and the lawyer have sent a defamation notice three times to Koena to stop maligning the Bindras in print, but she refused to accept it. “Koena has said that she has issued a legal notice to the Bindras, where is the notice? Koena has said that Dolly was not a part of the contract then how does she justify her presence at JW Mariott |
