 I didn’t know what to make after Murder and Gangster. I was wondering what to do. One fine day, while discussing our everyday lives with friends, it struck me that I should make a film on a city. We have a lot of drama in our everyday lives. Even India is fast becoming a world of SMS’s and e-mails. All the while, the distances in our hearts are increasing. Hence Metro was born," says Anuraag Basu.Anuraag adds that after screening the film for his friends, many people identified with the characters. "The narrating style is such that it makes you laugh and cry."
There were rumours that Shilpa Shetty’s role was increased after she won Big Brother. Basu laughs and says, "If that were the case, it would all tumble like a pack of cards. Ronnie Screwvala is not the kind to change his script because of someone. But I could probably say that her winning Big Brother will definitely change the market overseas. She won Big Brother in the month of January and people are now eagerly awaiting Shilpa’s film," informs Anuraag.
Coming to the film’s music, it must have been immense pressure on him and Pritam to recreate the magic of Gangster’s soundtrack. "Yes, there has been a lot of pressure. In fact we started off by wanting to make music that surpasses Gangster and becomes a superhit. For one-and-a-half months, we spent a lot of time just trying to make things happen differently. We finally decided to just go ahead and immerse ourselves in making good music," says Anuraag.
With such a multi-starcast in the film, how did he manage to do justice to each character? "Well, nobody had any chance to complain. The length of the roles was well-structured. It was great fun working with them. Kay Kay and Irfaan have been my friends from our TV days. I have worked with Shiny and Kangana earlier. So they all have equal on-screen time" he replies. |
