Newcomer Jiah Khan will play the lead in the Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini, a remake of A.R. Murugadoss’ Tamil film. When contacted, Jiah confirmed the news, "I have signed the deal to act in Ghajini’s remake." Ask her how the whole deal came about and Jiah chooses to remain tightlipped about it. "I cannot say anything right now," is all she offers. It may be recalled that several actresses were considered for the project including Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra but nothing was confirmed. In fact if reports are to be believed, Kangana was the one who was to play the lead in the film. But the cookie (read deal) crumbled before it could be consumed by the actress. A source has it, "Kangana going to the press about the deal annoyed the actor and thus she was shown the door."
Ghajini has been inspired from the Hollywood hit Memento that tells the story of a man suffering from short-term memory loss. He uses vital clues to hunt down the man who he thinks killed his wife. Jiah has been in news for other reasons too. Reports have it that she was almost signed for the remake of another Tamil film, Pokhiri, to be produced by Boney Kapoor. The deal, however, went kaput because she made some uncharitable comments about Salman Khan and his girlfriend Katrina Kaif in an interview. The film is to mark the debut of southern superstar Prabhu Deva as a director. Sources also have it that ironically it was Salman who recommended Jiah’s name for the film. However, her comments did not go down well with the Khan family and the deal was called off. When asked about it Jiah said, "I don’t want to comment on it." After Asin and Ayesha Takia now Jiah Khan lets who is next.
