Kallol Sen’s Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha explores a theme that is still shoved under the rug — sex. The film was initially titled Love, Sex Etc. The IIT-IIM graduate’s film, explores the subject of sex through the eyes of its six diverse protagonists, who are representatives of the youth of today, each with a different temperament. The film asks questions like: What do they think of sex, what do they think of women in bed, what do they fantasise most about what do they think about marriage and even oral sex.
Sen’s film was "deemed inappropriate to Indian audiences" by the first set of Central Board of Film Certification jury members. "The censor board felt that the Indian audience was not mature enough to watch a film like this, but the film was reviewed for the second time and passed with minor cuts," clarifies Sen.
The story germinated from the discussions of sex that Sen had witnessed amongst friends, colleagues and relatives in general. Sen feels that the youth today is caught at crossroads between the lure of western culture and the societal pressures of sticking to Indian cultural values. "So the youth today has finally started to create its own value system, which redefines the meaning of love, sex, marriage etc. This cocktail culture has confused the current generation completely." Ask him how different is Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha from Page 3 and Life In A Metro that also expose the hypocrisy in society and Sen replies, " I have watched Page 3 and Metro and I think my film is better." |
