I am a diva at heart," says actress , adding, "I don’t like the hierarchy of stardom nor does the box office even consider me. What matters, is being recognised for the excellent job you have done. I started working when commercial cinema wasn’t exciting. There was a phase of parallel cinema where actresses like Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi had already carved their niche. I didn’t fit in either the commercial setup or parallel cinema. I didn’t do small films unless the role was exciting. The focus was also more on the younger generation. Older woman of my age were relegated," says Kirron.

Having won the National Award, the actress is finally being recognised for her roles. Be it Rang De Basanti or Khamosh Paani, she has performed her roles with elan. The actress is looking forward to Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om.  "I am playing a woman from Kanpur, UP. She is the kind who has a lot of universal wisdom. It was wonderful working with Shah Rukh (Khan). He is such a great actor. Working with Deepika (Padukone) was fun too. I used to play badminton with her father Prakash Padukone. My sister was a national level badminton player and we all used to play together with Ami Ghia. We had fun and watching his beautiful daughter coming into films feels so good now," says Kirron.
