After reigning as the queen of Bollywood playback singing for more than 60 years, Lata Mangeshkar may finally make her international debut. Composer Aadesh Shrivastava is persuading the singing legend to take the plunge. “I want Lata didi to contribute to the album that I’ve just done with hip-hop artiste Wyclef Jean. Only she can bring that sense of melodious grace and harmony to that album,” Shrivastava said. “Without Lata didi’s voice my first international album would be incomplete,” he added.

Lata, currently putting finishing touches to her first ghazal album in two decades, is considering the offer. “She has to do it. While Ashaji has gone international so many times, Lata didi hasn’t done an international album yet. I’ll convince her,” said Shrivastava.
