 Pooja Bhatt is directing her next film Dhoka, but the one actually in action is her father, Mahesh Bhatt. Her filmmaker father had announced retirement from film direction with Zakhm but he had to go against his word to help his actor-turned-filmmaker daughter become successful. Sources say that Mahesh, who is also the writer of Dhoka, is present on the sets on every single shooting day. He takes control of the proceedings and does what a director would do on his own film’s sets. Pooja is always seen listening to his directions and then summoning her assistants to do the needful. He often comes on the sets before Pooja and discusses the shot divisions with the technicians
"Pooja had turned into a director with Paap with the then newcomers John Abraham and Udita Goswami, but the film failed at the box office. Later she did Holiday starring Dino Morea and newcomer Onjolee Nair which failed to generate any response. She has almost retired from the acting scene and wants to concentrate on producing and directing films but none of her films have helped her establish herself as a filmmaker," observes a Bollywood insider.
"The subject of Dhoka was originally written by Mahesh for his son Rahul’s debut film titled Suicide Bomber with Anurag Basu as the director. But after the success of Gangster, Basu moved out of the Bhatt camp and got together with UTV to make Metro. Now, with him being picked by Rakesh Roshan to direct son Hrithik in his next production, Mahesh decided to use this subject for Pooja’s film," adds another source.
When contacted, Mahesh’s brother Mukesh Bhatt, who is co-producing Dhoka with Pooja’s production company, clarifies, "My brother is involved with all our productions as a guide. He writes most of our projects and is the presenter of the film as well. The subject of Dhoka is dear to him and his presence on the sets should not be considered as something else." |
