Nandana balances desi, international films PDF E-mail
Friday, 20 July 2007

bollywood actressAfter getting rave reviews for her performance in Black, Nandana Sen, is not only looking forward to a host of Bollywood ventures, but international movies as well. The actress first talks about Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya. “It is based on artist Raja Ravi Verma’s life. I play his love interest. Randeep Hooda is doing a pivotal role. We will start shooting for the film at N.D. Studios in a week’s time,” says Nandana.

About her forthcoming venture, Marigold, she says, “I play a very spirited Rajasthani girl and am Salman’s fiancée, or the Indian love interest. It was fun doing the role and I enjoyed working with Salman.” When asked what is keeping the actress away from Bollywood, she replies, “Indian films are in my blood. I grew up watching Indian films, but I have been globe trotting. Whether it’s Indian or international, it doesn’t matter to me — what matters is the script and the characters. After Black I did films like Tango Charlie and Ram Gopal Varma’s My Wife’s Murder.”

Does that mean Nandana is not ready for commercial Indian ventures? “I never said no to Indian films. I am fond of Indian cinema. We have a healthy commercial cinema and it has captivated a large audience all over the world. There are no hard and fast rules that I will not do Indian movies,” says the Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen’s daughter.

About her forthcoming ventures she says, “I am doing Anand Rai’s Strangers with Jimmy and Kay Kay in the lead. Then there’s Ashwin Kumar’s The Forest. It is about two men falling in love with the same girl. It has been shot entirely in the Himalayas. I am also doing a British-South African film, The World Unseen. I am fortunate that I’ve not been typecast in any of the films. What is interesting is that I play different characters in every film. In international projects I get cast as a non-Indian, a Briton or a Spanish. I am lucky to get such roles.”
