Preeti Jhangiani in negative role |

 After doing soft romantic roles, Preeti Jhan-giani will now be seen as a negative character in Kamal Sadanah’s Victoria No 203. The actress is quite thrilled about her role. "I haven’t seen the old film but when I heard the script I liked it. Actually, I was a little shocked when I heard that I have to play a negative role. I’ve never done a role like this before. But I was also quite excited about it," says Preeti.
Speaking about her role Preeti shares that it is a very stylised and glamorous one. "Initially I was scared to do this role but when I heard the script I realised how important it was in the whole film. Devyani, my character, is a very street smart, modern and intelligent girl. She has not seen any love in childhood and feels that money is the most important thing in life."
So did she have to take any extra efforts to prepare for the role? "Yes, of course. In terms of looks I had to prepare a lot. I added extensions to my hair. I wore lenses to make my face bear a hard look and I had to work on the costumes as well since I was portraying a negative character," she says.
She explains, "In terms of acting it was all the more difficult since I had to be hard and stern all the time. Director Anant Mahadevan would often tell me, ‘Preeti you are Devyani, look cold. You are supposed to be planning and scheming all the time’." The actor has been cast opposite Javed Jaffrey in the film. "Javed is a natural comedian and sometimes I found it difficult to match his spontaneity," adds Preeti.
What next? "I have not signed any other film for now. I am lying low and am taking care not to do the same run-of-the-mill kind of characters. I enjoyed doing this role and now I want to experiment with different kind of roles," adds Preeti. |
