Social causes occupy ex-Miss India Sayali Bhagat PDF E-mail
Friday, 18 May 2007
sayali While most beauty pageant winners move to Bolly-wood and forget their promises of charity work given during or after winning their titles, ex-Miss India Sayali Bhagat has proven that she is indeed different. Sayali, who is making her debut in Bollywood with The Train, opposite Emraan Hashmi, is into charity work for a long time now without seeking publicity over it.

The model-turned-actress has been going to Kargil every two months to help the women and children of the soldiers who died in the Kargil war. But she is reluctant to talk about it. “Yes I am into a little bit of social work but I don’t like to speak about it. I am doing it for a cause and not for publicity,” she says.
After a lot of coaxing the actress talks about her work, “I try to help them by generating revenue for their daily lives, education and medicines. There is still a long way to go. I visit these children every two months. It relieves me of all the tensions when I sit and chat with them and discuss many important issues.”
Sayali is presently working on a documentary film on Baba Amte and Prakash Amte’s work. They have been working on anti-leprosy measures for decades.  “I visit their place once a year and make sure people get their dose of vaccination. I feel very satisfied after doing such work,” she says.  So are her social commitments the reason for being hardly seen in P3 circles like her contemporaries? “I am choosy. I don’t like to party just to be seen. I do it for happiness and have fun with close relatives and friends. I want my work to speak for myself,” she says.

The ex-Miss India adds, “I want to make my mark in the industry and not just be a glamour girl. In my debut film The Train, my character has a lot of shades, from that of a romantic girl to a wife. It is a performance oriented role.” “I have signed two more films. One is a comedy and the other one is suspense film. I can’t reveal much more about them at the moment,” she concludes.
