Akshay Kumar will display his culinary skills once again, but only on reel. He will be seen playing a cook in producer Rohan Sippy’s Made in China. Nikhil Advani of Salaam-E-Ishq fame will be directing this action-cum-comic thriller, which also features super model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone opposite Akshay along with Chinese actors. Akshay was Akshay Kumar -a cook at a small eatery in Bangkok during the late 80s when he was training in martial arts, much before he joined films.
Talking about Made In China, Rohan says, “The film chronicles the lunatic adventures of a hapless simpleton cook from Mumbai, played by Akshay. As he goes to seek his destiny, he finds himself thrown into a crazy world of megalomaniac villains, femme fatales, crazy inventors, Chinese mysticism and outlandish kung fu assassins. The film perfectly merges Indian style dance and masala with Chinese kung fu and Beijing opera.”
The film was earlier titled Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo, but the title was changed when Nikhil visited China to finalise the shooting locations. He was so impressed with the country that he decided to name his film Made In China. The film, written by Shridhar Raghavan, will be the first Hindi film ever to be shot in China. It will be distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. Ramesh says, “India and China have captured the public imagination like no other country at this point in time. We’re making a film that marries the best of the two filmmaking traditions. There could be no better partner than Warner to help us reach out to audiences worldwide.” |
