The stories of girls pushed into prostitution by their own family as a custom in some villages in India shocked Meghna Naidu to the extent that she is now doing a film based on that theme. “The articles that I read on certain villages following the custom of a girl being encouraged to take up prostitution so that the men in the family can live off her money, disturbed me. I am happy to be a part of the film Rivaaz directed by Ashok Nanda that highlights this issue. It is strange that in a progressive country like India there are families that continue to follow such absurd rituals. The team that had done a thorough research in the villages that followed this strange custom showed me the facts and I was really shocked,” she says.

Meghna admits that initially she refused to believe that such a custom existed in India. “I think people who live in metros are so blinded by their lifestyles that they just cannot see things beyond their perspective and that is really sad. Believe me, the true reports gave me goose bumps.”
