Rahul Bose practised cricket for four weeks at the Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai for his role in Kittu Salooja’s Chain Khulli Ki Main Khulli. The actor would begin practice at 7.30 am sharp. "Getting up early in the morning has never been a problem with me," Rahul says.
He adds, "Anil Mazumdar, coach Amol Mazumdar’s father, was the one who coached me for four weeks and it was while learning to play cricket that my respect for players like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid increased 10 fold."
About his role, Rahul says, "I play the opening batsman in the film, and I wanted to get enough practice to look like one. I learnt that the opening batsman has to be sharp and alert and that is the reason I say that I respect our cricketers even more than before. The whole experience of playing the role was quite exhilarating."
Rahul further explains, "Chain Khulli... is my first film that revolves around a sport — cricket to be precise. It is so ironical that though I have been a sportsperson all my life, yet this is the first time that I am playing one in a film. It is also my first flick that involves children. That’s the reason why I chose to be a part of it. Besides, of course, I found the subject really interesting."
Rahul says that there have been very few films in India for children that have been interesting. "Barring a Makdee, I don’t remember any interesting film made for children. The films made till date usually talked down to them. Children have been incredibly underestimated. But that is not the case now as there is more awareness among children. And that is what sets Chain Khulli… apart from the other children’s films that have been made till date. It genuinely delves into their psychology and even touches upon the dark aspects," explains Rahul.
"It exposes the pain and pleasure that a child experiences. Kittu has dealt with the subject with utmost reality and that is why I enjoyed being a part of it," he concludes. |
