Even though the film industry is abuzz with news about model-turned-actor Deepika Padukone having caught the fancy of budding actor and son of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir, insiders insist it is not Deepika but Sonam, actor Anil Kapoor’s daughter, who Ranbir is serious about. Ranbir and Sonam have been familiar with each other for long and they had decided to assist Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the making of Black together. "The feeling of romance and love had sparked off since then,"reveals a source.
The source adds, "Ranbir and Sonam being cast together for Saawariya has only depend their feelings for each other. It does not come as a surprise for the unit members and director Sanjay that their real life feelings come out on screen so easily." 
The source said that Ranbir and Sonam’s real life love affair was very evident on the sets of Saawariya. "Ranbir and Sonam cannot do without each other.
The vibes that they shared with each other made it obvious that there definitely was something brewing between them. Also, since Sanjay is a strict disciplinarian on the sets, Ranbir and Sonam enjoyed playing pranks on each other off the sets. The mutual love and affection could be easily read in their eyes." The source also said that when Bhansali would scold Sonam for not coming up with a good performance for a shot, it was Ranbir who would console her. "He would comfort her if she was feeling miserable and low on the sets. He genuinely cares for her."
When asked about Ranbir and Deepika being together, the source said, "It could be just some innocent flirtation from Ranbir’s side. The unit members of Saawariya will vouch for the Ranbir-Sonam affair."
