Randeep Hooda has bought himself something that he is passionate about. The actor has had a great fascination for horses ever since he can remember. "So I have just bought myself another horse. I have already had one before, and now another one! He is extremely sophisticated, just like me," says Randeep with a smile.
He adds, "I think horses are the most majestic creatures on earth. They have a certain air about them. I like the way they gallop with full speed. Even horses are loyal to their masters and that is one quality I admire about them."
Few know that Randeep is an expert at tent pegging. He is also an excellent jockey. "Tent pegging is often referred to as equestrian skill-at-arms, the sport has a mounted cavalier riding at a full gallop across a timed course using a lance to pierce or pick up or carry away a small ground target, usually a symbolic tent peg or a series of small ground targets. To succeed, one has to have tremendous perseverance and a very strong will as tent pegging requires the participant to have sharp skills and needs to be extremely dexterous. Even being a jockey is not a child’s play," says Randeep.
He explains excitedly, "The broader class of tent pegging also includes ring jousting in which a galloping rider tries to pass the point of his weapon through a suspended ring. There’s also lemon sticking in which the rider tries to slice the suspended lemon from the cord. It is this kind of sport that brings about tremendous awareness and alertness in an individual."
Randeep has also attended the polo clinic event at the Mahalaxmi Race Course, Mumbai organised by the Amateur Riders Club. Manupal Godhra was the coach and it was under his guidance that Randeep was trained at the polo match that he participated recently. "Yes, I played polo and it turned out to be a very exhilarating experience. The matter was not about winning or losing as much as the joy being a part of it. |
