My name is Anthony Gonsalves-Just a old wine in a new bottle
To begin with ,the film revolves around Anthony Gonsalves (nikhil) who is a struggling actor ,who has a background of being picked up from a street and handed over to a a father of a church Briganza (Mithun Chakravarthy) by the local gangster Sikander Bhai (pawan malhotra)
Anthony finds himself a job at the local pub run by Murtuz Seth (Anupam Kher). Skiander Bhai , Maqssod (mukesh Tiwari) and Riyaaz (Daya Shanker Pandey) who are involved in illegal activities . Anthony soon falls in love with Riya(Amrita Rao) an assistant director on Ms .Bharucha’s (lilttle Dubey) Film
Fate has no plans for Anthony as he witnesses a dead body being buried by the gangster Trio of Sikander,Maqssod and Riyaz.Soon Anthony is hounded by inspector Khan (javed Shiekh) for leads. Anthony is faced with the dilemma of Choosing between his own Bhai and the truth he witnessed.
My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves has definitely been doing rounds for various reasons right from Sharukh’s Red Chillies association with the film to the comparisons drawn between Nikhil and Dwivedi and Sharukh of the Deewana Days.
Priyanka Chopra is seen in a guest appearance role in this film.
The film takes off with a journey of Bandra Boy Anthony and Cuts through various cliché characters right from Father Briganza to Bandra ka Michael to complete the ride, leaving the audience perplexed of where the film is heading.
The film keeps on swinging from high energy sequences to some dull shots. E.Niwas tries hard to keep the audience glued to the seats but its not worthy deed.(Full Review Below)
Performances
Nikhi does a pretty decent job of acting as a Bandra dude. its like New Sharukh emerging from Nikhil’s acting and also sometime he mimics sharukh’s mannerisms.
Amrita Rao is not overshadowed by Nikhil, in fact in a male oriented film she does a meaty role. She gives a good performance and sizzles on the screen with her hot looks.
Mithun does a well carved character role and he does a superb acting which is apt to the charcate. mithun’s fight sequence in the end is entertaining and wonder the catholic community will raise some objections in the coming days.
Anupam kher looks a complete cut paste from Kahon Na Pyar hain.
Mukesh tiwari, pawan and Daya act well according to their given characters.
The film also has a cameo role of Priyanka chopra ad Anil kapoor and an item number by once upon time Hrishitaa Bhatt.
Music by Pritam is average. And cinematograph y by Prakash is excellent.
On the whole My name is Anthony Gonsalves is better to see film in small screen than going to theatres and sitting in front of sliver screen with dumb faces..
E.Niwas who wanted to prove a point that, a film need not be a hit if it does not cast a star celebrity like Khan or a Bachchan is some what acceptable. But must carry on, with a lot of work in his coming films.
