Munna Movie review Prabhas, ileana PDF E-mail
Wednesday, 02 May 2007

Munna is a total action packed film from debut director Vamshi Paidipally. Munna's (Prabhas) only aim in life is to see the collapse of Khakha (Prakashraj).munna Khakha is a prominent mafia leader who commands political, judicial and underworld systems in the city. Munna has hatred on Khakha from his childhood and even attempts to kill him twice - once during his childhood and once when he is in teens, but they fail. Munna now joins a college in the city along with his four friends and slowly raises as the leader there. Munna's raise is like a thorn for Khakha. Why Munna has so much aversion for Khakha and how he used his brains and brawns to kill the empire of Khakha and also elimination of the bad is the rest of the film.

munna

Barring a new look, there isnt much difference in the role for Prabhas from what he had done in his previous films - single handedly he wipes out bunch of goons, breaks iron culverts etc. But as usual, he is good in that role. His character as bar tender, a student, a friend, a leader and a savior is nicely projected on the screen. Heroism is elevated to the core in the film. His confrontation scene with Prakashraj (that comes as interval bang), his encouragement for a student to fight Khakha's son etc.. such scenes are done very good in the film and elevate the character of Prabhas.

munna

munna ileana is more or less for songs. She looked good. The film casts long list of prominent actors - Prakashraj, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Posani Krishnamurali, Brahmaji, Rahuldev, Kalyani, Sukanya, Tanikella Bharani, Raghu Babu, Surya, Sudha etc. Kalyani did a short role as mother to Prabhas. Every one is content in their roles.

Scattered points from few English films can be noticed here and there but they are not the base in the film. Politics, mafia ploy etc are knitted to provide unpredictable twists. Vamshi Padipally's takings are good and they are aptly supported by good background score by Harris Jayraj and slick cutting by editor Marthand K.Venkatesh. This is especially the case with projecting and presenting Prabhas. However, Vamshi couldnt prove the same with the narration.

Marthand Venkatesh impresses with his editing in songs. In songs, Anand Sai's art work brings a rich and contemparory feel. Cinematographer Ramprasad did a very good job with his camera especially the lighting in the rain fight etc are good. Music by Harris Jayraj is good. However, only couple of numbers are catchy. Shriya appears in one item song and that song is alright.

Though Vamshi impresses with his style of takings, he could have done better with the screenplay. First half drags with the pattern of a fight for Prabhas, a song with Ileana and Kota's confrontation with Khakha. It is the interval bang that brings life into the film. Second half runs with lot of action and few twists.

The way Prabhas uses his brains and brawns to bring down Prakashraj and his empire is good. However, the screenplay failed to elevate the same in the film. There is lot of action, especially in the second half. There is not much violence, however. Though couple of numbers are good and executed well on screen, the songs are like speed breakers in narration. Entertainment elements are also lacking except for a few tickles here and there. With the above mentioned lags, Munna stands as an average film.
